Kat's art is a reflection of her deeply subjective and emotional engagement with the world. Represented by Connexions Gallery since 2022, she continues to captivate audiences with her dynamic and evocative compositions, inviting them on a journey of introspection and discovery.
In my artistic journey, I embrace a philosophy of spontaneity and intuitive creation, eschewing meticulous planning and conscious thought. Instead, I engage in a fluid dialogue with the canvas, allowing each brushstroke and mark to guide the next in a harmonious dance of expression. This organic process fosters a profound connection between myself and the artwork, resulting in compositions that speak a deeply personal yet universally resonant language.
Drawing inspiration from a multitude of sources, including the works of influential artists like Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, and Lee Krasner, as well as the spiritual symbolism of Hilma af Klint, my paintings are imbued with a sense of vitality and emotive depth. Like these masters, I am drawn to the gestural style and organic shapes that evoke the raw essence of human experience.
My preferred medium, mixed media, grants me the freedom to experiment with a wide array of materials, from acrylic paint and markers to collage, ink, and pastels. Through layering and texture, I seek to capture the richness and complexity of emotion, inviting viewers to explore the intricacies of their own inner landscapes.
Each painting is a journey into the unknown, a voyage of discovery guided by the ebb and flow of creative energy. Much like the music and poetry that inspire me, my art invites contemplation and reflection, encouraging viewers to delve beneath the surface and uncover hidden truths.
The physicality of the canvas itself becomes a terrain to be explored, with thick impasto textures juxtaposed against delicate brushstrokes, and vibrant hues mingling with earthy tones. This interplay of light and shadow, roughness and smoothness, mirrors the duality of existence - the gritty realities of life intertwined with moments of transcendent beauty.
Through my work, I aim to capture the essence of human emotion in all its complexity, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the rich tapestry of color, texture, and form. I hope that, in experiencing these visual narratives, they may find solace, inspiration, and a deeper connection to the shared human experience.
